Preparing for Kenya
if you're reading this post, i am assuming that you are interested in, or at least intrigued by, what will be happening in kenya come late november/early december. i wish i could tell you, ha. i only know the rough plan as of now, but i believe that i can't even imagine fully what God will do if our team will simply seek Him and allow Him to use us...
as i sit here, pondering this opportunity that has been placed before me and wondering how i can best describe my thoughts and feelings about it, the following is what surfaces...
my goal is to live a life that is centered around doing that which i feel is the direction God has for my life. over the past few years, this journey has been nothing short of, well, crazy (in a good way). as i continue day after day, two things seem to continually, at some point, make their way into my heart and mind. these things are rather broad issues, but for some reason that seems to make them all the more exciting to me. these two things are...WORSHIP and JUSTICE...(i told you they were broad)...for me, life comes down to these two topics. i believe that what Jesus called the two greatest commandments ('"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?' Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest command. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.'" - Matthew 22:36-39 NIV) can be broken down into these two words. love God...a.k.a. WORSHIP. love people...a.k.a. JUSTICE (this could be unpacked and elaborated on even more, but i'll leave it be for now). this is what i'm about. i am about worshipping an amazing God and seeing other's do the same. however, in order to do this, a pursuit must take place...a pursuit of God and a pursuit of people. you see, i believe that God has given his Church two assignments...to relentlessly seek Him and to relentlessly seek people. real, hurting, broken, in-need-of-a-savior people whom he desires to seek Him as well. it's in doing these two things that true WORSHIP and JUSTICE emerge...
so what does this have to do with kenya? i believe this is an opportunity to seek God and to seek people. to love God and to love people. to Worship and pursue Justice...
the goal is to simply allow God to be God, to do what we can to see real people encounter Him, and then watch in amazement as God changes lives in a way that only He can. to see people who are starving for truth finally receive it, and be forever changed by the power of God...
if you are interested in knowing some specifics about what our team will be doing while in kenya, you can find them listed in the description of the facebook group page "send nathan to kenya"...but for now, i'll say that our avenue is music, drama, games, youth camp, teaching, and simply sharing the stories of how God has changed our lives, all of which will be done while we partner with missionaries and church in the country of kenya...
but for now, it's simply a matter of preparing...doing what can be done in order to be used effectively by God while on this adventure...
